The post-emergence era is defined by a dominant galactic authority operating alongside hundreds of lesser polities, alliances, and competing power blocs. The central authority is democratic in structure, broadly republican in design, and liberal in its institutional values. It does not govern every aspect of planetary life. World-level autonomy is preserved wherever possible. Its jurisdiction concentrates on corridor regulation, interstellar conflict mediation, and the licensing or restriction of high-order technologies.

This authority exists not to impose ideological uniformity, nor to construct a utopian system, but to prevent structural instability. Unchecked corridor expansion, uncontrolled military escalation, or reckless technological proliferation carry civilisational risks. The central government functions as a stabilising architecture, not a moral arbiter.

Beyond it operate superpowers, federations, coordinated starfleets, ideological blocs, technocratic enclaves, and openly dystopian regimes. Rogue systems and isolated worlds persist at the margins of corridor space, some by choice, others by exclusion. No faction is uniformly benevolent or malign. Political behaviour is shaped by incentives embedded in infrastructure.

Power derives primarily from three variables: control of corridor junctions, technological superiority, and dominance over information systems. Military capacity follows from these rather than preceding them.

Conflict is endemic but stratified. Disputes arise over corridor access and chokepoints, over ideological influence operations, and over the suppression or exposure of sensitive data. AI autonomy remains a recurring fault line, particularly in regions with divergent regulatory standards. Competition for precursor artefacts and historical claims generates additional friction, as control of the past often translates into leverage over the future.

Wars occur at local, regional, and interstellar scales. Their frequency and intensity are deliberately managed by corridor oversight and treaty frameworks designed to prevent cascading collapse. Certain technologies are prohibited outright due to existential risk potential. Enforcement is imperfect but systematic.

Information flows unevenly across the galaxy. In liberal territories, knowledge is broadly accessible, constrained primarily by safety protocols. In authoritarian regions, research, historical records, and AI development are tightly restricted. These disparities shape political alignment as much as military strength.

Legarune’s political order is therefore neither chaotic nor harmonious. It is a managed equilibrium maintained within the physical limits imposed by corridor infrastructure and the strategic limits imposed by shared vulnerability.
