Kessa Vro doesn’t carry a gun. She carries a bat — a three-foot length of reinforced alloy, weighted at the barrel, wrapped in grip tape that’s been replaced so many times the original handle is buried under layers. She’s been asked why she doesn’t upgrade to something more lethal. Her answer is always the same: a gun ends a fight. A bat ends a career.

Background

Kessa grew up in the transit districts between city-states, where the only law is the one you can enforce yourself. She learned to fight before she learned to read, and she learned to read from signage in the markets where she worked as a teenager. By twenty, she was running security for a cargo outfit that operated across three city-state borders. By twenty-five, she was independent.

Combat Style

Kessa fights close. The bat is a short-range weapon by necessity — she has to be within arm’s reach to use it, which means she has to be faster, more precise, and more willing to take a hit than her opponents. She uses the bat’s weight to generate momentum, spinning it through arcs that clear space and create openings. She doesn’t waste movement. Every swing is calculated.

Appearance

Kessa is compact and solid, with the build of someone who does physical work every day. She wears dark, functional clothing — nothing that would restrict movement, nothing that would stand out in a crowd. The bat is always within reach, usually slung across her back or resting against whatever surface is closest.
